CHRIS SHIPLEY
STARTING THE NEW YEAR WITH OLD FRIENDS

Happy New Year! The first column of the year ought to be all about fresh outlooks and new beginnings, but I realized -- as I tuned up my computing environment over the holidays - that there was no way I was braving a new year without some old friends.
At DEMO, we're always looking for the "latest and greatest" products, ideas that are ahead of the curve. But it's some of our most relied upon tech tools that have been on the workbench for a very long time. So, before I go running headlong into 2008 and the next DEMO conference (it's just a couple weeks away, Jan. 28-30 - be sure to mark your calendars to join us in person or online), I want to give tribute to the tools and technologies that make my life a whole lot easier.

Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve Edition
I use, without question, the sexiest laptop ever. The Reserve Edition is wrapped in leather, making it a head-turner at coffee shops and airport lounges. But beneath all those good looks is an old friend. I've been a ThinkPad customer (yes, I do buy my own technology) for a decade because these machines perform well, are lightweight, and are rugged as hell. I carry a laptop like some women carry a purse: it's always with me and it's got more anything I need on it. So, make mine stylish and utilitarian, and I can't go wrong.
