New DNS bug and fix announced

Domain name registries are scrambling to patch a newly discovered bug in popular open source DNS software that could be exploited for denial-of-service attacks. The bug and a corresponding fix were announced Monday by NLnet Labs, a research group that provides authoritative domain name server software called NSD to domain name registrars. Read story.

Aneesh Chopra, appointed last month as the federal government's chief technology officer by President Barack Obama, may face questions at his U.S. Senate confirmation hearing today about his use of technology outsourcing in his previous post as Virginia's secretary of technology. Chopra is slated to face questions from members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation during a confirmation hearing later today.  

New $369 Dell netbook for schools has germ-busting keyboard
An anti-microbial keyboard and a "network activity light" to let teachers know when students are surfing the Web instead of paying attention to their lessons are among the features of a netbook aimed at schools unveiled Tuesday by Dell. 

Should Software Licenses Hold Vendors Accountable? Microsoft and Linux Say No
Over the weekend Microsoft and the Linux Foundation issued a joint letter to the ALI (American Law Institute) objecting to some new draft guidelines. The ALI would like judges dealing with software licensing cases to enforce warranty measures so software vendors must fix bugs in their software, and also that open source contributors should be held responsible for infringements (patents for example) for contributions they make.

Steve Jobs won't be delivering this years WWDC Keynote Address
Steve Jobs scheduled June return to his position as CEO of Apple generated a lot of speculation that Jobs might make an early return and deliver the keynote address at this year's upcoming WWDC. Unfortunately those dreams were dashed last week when Apple released a press release stating that this years WWDC keynote will be handled by "a team of Apple executives, led by Philip Schiller."
