GENBAND announced that it has joined the Alcatel-Lucent CloudBand Ecosystem Program in a partnership designed to accelerate market development for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). As a program member, GENBAND will access Alcatel-Lucent’s NFV lab in an effort to integrate key components of its NFV applications and solutions portfolio with Alcatel-Lucent’s CloudBand NFV Platform.The collaborative efforts will target service providers who are increasingly using NFV. Microsoft unifies communication between Skype and Lync
Microsoft has done a lot of consolidating lately, and the latest step is to merge communications between Lync, its business/office video communications app, and Skype, the commercial product it acquired two years ago.Users who update to the latest versions of both Skype and the Office app Lync will now be able to make video calls to one another and not be bound by having the same app. Lync users can make and receive calls from Skype users, and vice versa.This merger has been in the works for some time, as Microsoft noted in the Office Blog, where it announced the integration of the two video chat apps. In 2013, Microsoft enabled Lync users to contact people on Skype using instant messaging, presence, and audio calling from the Lync contact list. Skype implicated in EU corporate income tax scandal
Skype used two Luxembourg companies and an Irish subsidiary to avoid paying corporate income tax during a five year period, according to documents detailing deals with Luxembourg tax authorities.On Tuesday, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) published a new batch of documents in its ongoing investigation into secret tax agreements approved by Luxembourg authorities.The documents included some showing that Skype used complicated corporate structures to avoid paying corporate tax, according to an analysis of the documents by The Guardian.
